While earning her advanced Art Degree, Catherine created paintings, installations and sculptures. Her work is playful , imaginative and thought provoking.

Catherine Carilli, a Colorado artist, relates to 20th century Modernism and the importance of the individual mark. Her work reflects the belief that art is timeless, beautiful, and emotive. She creates interactions of color and form that ideas and feelings can be projected onto. The origin of her work lies in abstraction: in the lusciousness of color, in the ability of abstract painting to hold enigmatic narrative and spirit, and in the rich visual surfaces found in layers of oil paint.

a world of intersecting universesMany art museums and galleries have featured her artwork including: The Overture Center formerly known as the The Madison Wisconsin Art Center; Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art (FCMOCA); University of Wisconsin; LA Artcore, Los Angeles, CA; University of Wyoming; Ucross Foundation; University of New Mexico; The Longmont Museum and Cultural Center; and Steinbaum Krause Gallery in NYC, to name a few from her resume. She exhibits her work in Denver at Next Gallery, and at SPARK Gallery. Carilli is an active member of Boulder County’s and Denver’s art communities.

Her artwork is regularly reviewed by art critics. Mary Chandler, for The Rocky Mountain News, mentioned her artwork as a “great “ addition to a recent Rocky Mountain Biennial . Jay Gluckstern, for The Boulder Daily Camera, wrote of a recent exhibition, “ In some instances, Carilli’s surfaces take on the solidity of stone; in others the random beauty of a drop cloth. Together, those qualities combine to suggest both the weight and wake of creation.”

Catherine Carilli’s artwork is in The Permanent Collection of 20th Century Modernism by Colorado Artists, at the Vance Kirkland Museum in Denver, Colorado. Carilli is currently teaching Studio Art and Art History at Front Range Community College in Boulder County.
