I am currently using lots of graphite into blended acrylic paints, and metallic. There is a rhythm and a flow between the drawings and the chromatic, expressive backgrounds. The combination of painting, drawing, color, and graphite, are an intriguing mix. I work with personal symbols and memory to create rich surfaces to hold emotional and conceptual content. My process art is tempered with internal meaning for me, and for the viewer’s projections.
Lately, I have been looking at the photography of Tina Modotti and Edward Weston during their years in Mexico, 1920’s- 1930’s. The forms in many of the photos are so abstract…usual objects seen as unusual shapes. I am also fascinated with the spontaneity and spirituality of the artist Marc Chagall. His paintings are ethereal, symbolic, passionate, and joyous. Chagall’s paintings float above the world with wonder and love. I wish to instill these feelings into my paintings.
